• Welcome to the Southeast Regional Sea Turtle Meeting website!!

The inaugural meeting will take place February 1 - 4, 2012 on Jekyll Island, GA (USA). This historic and ground breaking meeting will highlight marine turtle activities that occur in the southeastern United States, from Virginia through Texas. Regardless of where you live or your background, you are sure to walk away with a greater insight into one of the most important marine turtle habitats in the world.

Our theme, From Sand to Sea: A New Beginning, highlights our efforts to offer a new and refreshing means for people in our community to network and learn of research and conservation activities that are happening in their own backyard. It is also our desire to highlight studies being conducted by budding new scientists and welcome participation and abstracts from graduate students.

This year's conference will be held at the Jekyll Island Convention Campus, located in the heart of the historic district. The campus is within easy driving distance to all supporting hotels and has plenty of parking, although we do encourage carpooling. It is also within walking distance to our gracious hosts, The Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC). GSTC is the only sea turtle rehabilitation center in the state of Georgia and frequently accepts turtles from neighboring states. Dr. Terry Norton, GSTC Director and Veterinarian, has been integral to the establishment of the Southeast Regional Sea Turtle Network and the Southeast Regional Sea Turtle Meeting and we thank him for his efforts. Tours of the hospital facilities will be offered throughout the meeting and we encourage everyone to attend.

Once the playground to the rich and famous, Jekyll Island offers world class rounds of golf, biking, kayaking, historic tours and beautiful beaches. There are also quaint shops and restaurants within an easy walk or driving distance to the convention campus. And if you're feeling lucky, you can try your hand on the casino boat! In addition, the island's hotels are renowned for their green and conservation efforts, making them ideal for accommodating participants of SERSTM. We know you'll want to return again and again to experience the splendor and genteel ways of Jekyll Island, GA!!

Finally, the island's hotels are renowned for their green, conservation efforts, making them ideal for accommodating participants of SERSTM. To support SERSTN and to receive arranged rates, attendees are encouraged to book their housing requests with the Zenith Group.
